Loving The Muffins
When politicians make necessary concessions to businesses, the businesses share the risk of public disapproval. For one restaurant industry leader, the solution was an open-door, open-arms response.
PROBLEM
Ohio voters were furious when Governor John Kasich struck a sweetheart deal with the CEO of Ohio icon Bob Evans that provided incentives to keep the company’s corporate headquarters in the state.
APPROACH
Amid mass protests and flash mob gatherings at Bob Evans restaurants statewide, a crisis plan was immediately implemented, welcoming the protestors with coffee and muffins.
RESULTS
The Bob Evans brand did better than just survive significant local media coverage. One protestor even remarked on camera that “We have nothing against Bob Evans itself,” and that they were more upset at the governor. “Plus, we love the muffins!” she said.
