Sharon Collins Casey, Esq.

Sharon Collins Casey is an experienced attorney who has a 22-year background in corporate and securities law. During her career she has been associated with three major law firms and served as in-house legal counsel for two public companies and a large scientific research institute in three industries – personal computers, construction materials, and biotech research.
 
Her work on behalf of diverse businesses included primary or significant responsibilities relating to corporate governance, federal regulatory compliance, acquisitions and divestitures of business operations, joint ventures, antitrust issues, insurance-related issues, employment law matters, oversight of litigation, and drafting and review of corporate communications.  Ms. Casey works with corporate executives and Boards of Directors to craft strategies for managing and communicating about both internal and external issues and crises.
 
Ms. Casey started her legal career with Gadsby & Hannah in Boston and subsequently practiced with both Arent Fox and Venable in Washington, D.C.  For five years in the 1980s, she was in-house corporate counsel for Entre Computer Centers, one of the first retail chains in the fledgling personal computer industry.
For eight years in the 1990s, Ms. Casey served as U.S. legal counsel for Lafarge Corporation, a NYSE company that owned and operated the North American businesses of the largest cement and construction materials company in the world.  Ms. Casey left Lafarge to become Vice President and General Counsel of the The Institute for Genomic Research, the internationally known genomic research institute in Rockville, Maryland, that subsequently was merged with The J. Craig Venter Institute.   
 
Ms. Casey is a graduate of Wellesley College and Harvard Law School.  She has held leadership positions in a number of professional, educational and charitable organizations, including Chair of the Corporate Counsel Committee of the D.C. Bar Association, President of the Wellesley Club of Washington, D.C., a member of the Board of Trustees and head of the parents’ association of the Holton-Arms School, and chair of two major fundraising events for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic. She is a longtime member, and current Vice Chair, of the Board of Directors of the Washington Home and Community Hospices.
