Adam Clampitt has spent the past decade leading communications efforts in conflict zones around the world as well as providing strategic counsel and brand management to a variety of public and private stakeholders including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the United States Navy, Wal-Mart Stores, and the National Association of REALTORS®. Mr. Clampitt develops and implements integrated communications strategies for clients, overseeing long-range initiatives to improve organizational reputation through both traditional and digital means.
A key member of the firm’s Anti-corruption and Good Governance practice – a fully integrated component of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Anti-corruption Center of Excellence – Mr. Clampitt worked for Gen. Stanley McChrystal as the Director of Public Affairs Planning and Social Media for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Kabul, Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, Mr. Clampitt was responsible for building public affairs capacity during the much-publicized troop surge, and developed the command’s groundbreaking social media strategy, which gained international recognition as the most successful military digital campaign of all time.
Mr. Clampitt was also the lead on-the-ground military Public Affairs Officer during disaster relief and recovery operations in Banda Aceh, Indonesia following the devastating tsunami in 2005. He led teams of media into the disaster zone to promote the humanitarian assistance efforts of the United States government, and provided advance support for visits by former U.S. Presidents as well as Adm. Mike Mullen, the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Mr. Clampitt also spent four years at WPP sister companies Burson-Marsteller and Hill & Knowlton where he held the position of Vice President and managed several of the two firms’ largest clients. While at Burson-Marsteller, he was the account leader for the National Association of REALTORS®, the nation’s largest trade association with more than 1.3 million members as well as for the American Resort Development Association and Food Lion. He provided strategic counsel, digital communications expertise, crisis and public affairs support, and media outreach.
While at Hill & Knowlton, Mr. Clampitt managed Fortune 500 accounts including Wal-Mart, Allstate Insurance, Avery Dennison, Cathay Pacific Airlines, the California Endowment, Lockheed Martin, Norcal Mutual Insurance, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, and the UK Department of Trade and Industry.
As the director of Wal-Mart’s outreach initiative in California, Adam managed a team of 14 to conduct public affairs campaigns that included media outreach, digital engagement, and other strategic initiatives designed to enhance Walmart’s reputation as a community partner and quality employer.
Mr. Clampitt is a commissioned reserve Public Affairs officer in the United States Navy and holds a Top Secret security clearance. He earned a BA in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and holds a Masters in Public Policy from the University of California, Los Angeles.
